Pois

Pois are points of interest, interesting points, e.g. petrol stations, camping sites etc. etc. Poi collections are an indispensable source of data for travel planning.

QVX gives you access to the most important large data sources and also to some special collections. The Pois collections can be searched, for example to find gas stations in the vicinity, or by name and info, and some collections can be filtered by category and displayed on the map.

The following poi collections can be loaded into the map window as map layers and the categories can be shown and hidden separately:

  • OpenStreetMaps - worldwide. Accommodation, camping, food, shopping, refueling, charging, parking, health, Wikipedia\
  • TOURENFAHRER - German motorcycle travel magazine - article archive, partner hotels, tours, enduro tracks, motorcycle museums, passes, race tracks, biker meetings
  • Motorcycle track closures - roads and cross-town passages in Germany that are closed to motorcycles\

An Internet connection is required once per region. The data will be cached after downloading and will be available offline from then on.

The following poi collections can be searched:

  • OpenStreeMap - OsmOverpass
  • GeoNames.org
  • Google
  • Wikidata

An Internet connection is always required.

Pois as card layer

To show or hide a poi layer in the map, click on the Online Overlay button in the map toolbar:

In the project manager, you can then select and show or hide the desired categories:

You can set the zoom or scale from which the pois appear on the map. By default, pois are only drawn from a scale of about 1:150000. In sparsely populated areas it makes sense to show the pois earlier to have a better overview, in big cities it can be too early because there are too many pois.

So open the info of the layer:

and set the value for Zoom offset on the Style tab accordingly. Default is 0, a negative value makes the pois come earlier, a positive value later:

See in chapter Search-Poi.

Info

With a Poi can be connected further information. Right click on a poi, either in the map or in the list of search results, and select Info:

The poi info comes from the provider and is displayed in QVX as html document. Often they contain links to the original data. The hook Html must be on:

Save

You can save pois permanently as a waypoint. Simply call up the info as described above and then click Save. The poi will then be saved as a new waypoint in the active waypoint table.

Pois in the map can also be taken over directly during route planning. Simply click with activated catch.
