Adaptation for 4K, 8K and retina screens

The maps are basically constructed in levels and tiles. The smallest level contains the least tiles in the lowest resolution. Each next higher level contains 4 times as many tiles as the previous one.
This takes time, especially if the tiles come from online servers. With online maps, the tiles have a fixed size of mostly 256×256 pixels, which are then displayed very small on high-resolution displays.

QVX always tries to find a good compromise between performance and quality. If you have enabled the Camera Info in Settings Map Dashboard, the level and number of tiles (tls) are displayed:

On high-resolution screens, however, the number of tiles can be too much and the map structure too slow. The number of tiles should not exceed 50, and it is best to keep it well below that. Then you can reduce the tile resolution under Settings-Map-Render. From Normal to Medium or Low. Each level reduces the level by 1 and the number of tiles by a factor of 4 and increases performance accordingly.

Conversely, with small screens, e.g. a tablet in a car, it can be useful to switch up a level to see more details. This is what the High selection is for. But be careful, then 4x as many tiles are calculated with the corresponding effects on performance.

Try out which settings are best for your monitors. The setting is global and applies to all cards.
