As a user of QV7 you would like to take over your previous data and your activations.
Basically QVX and QV7 can run side by side on the same computer. They do not interfere with each other and do not share data. QV7 should not be uninstalled because QVX accesses QV7 internally for data transfer.
The move consists of three steps:
For this purpose the migration assistant is used, which you can find in the main menu under Tools - Migration from... See here.
This is the recommended way to import all DBs to QVX at once. However, since QV7 must still be installed, this way only works under Windows. macOS users therefore use the manual transfer of individual databases.
QV7 stores the data in Valentina databases as *.qv5db. These files cannot be read directly by QVX and QVM and must be converted.
In QV7 there is an export function for this. Select the desired databases in Xplorer, choose Export and then Format QVM.
This is the only way to get QV7 DBs to QVX-Mac. On the Mac side, copy the converted qvmdb files to the home\QVX-Data\DBs folder.
The second option is in QVX, provided QV7 is still installed and activated on the computer. Therefore this option only works for Windows, not for Mac. Select Tools - Import QV-DBs from the menu bar. QV7 must not run during this operation, please quit QV7 before.
Now you can select as many qv5dbs as you like, which will then all be individually converted to qvmdb format.
Note: If you have previously selected a directory in Xplorer, the converted databases will be imported into this folder. Otherwise into the main folder QV-Data.
IMPORTANT: Before you convert DBs from QV7 to QVX, you should install the latest software-download, at least QV 7.4.0.6.
If QV7 is still installed on the same computer, you can simply import all map licenses:
If QV7 is not installed on the computer, you can unlock each map item individually using the serial number.
Further information can be found here.
After you activated the maps in QVX, you have to make the map files and directories known to QVX. If everything remains on the same computer, it is sufficient to transfer the QV7 databases with the map tables from QV7. QVX and QV7 then share the maps.
If QVX is running on a different computer, you can still import the QV7 databases with the map tables from QV7. Then copy all map directories manually to the new computer. Then you have to adjust the path in the Xplorer for all maps. See here.
Alternatively, you can install the maps on the new computer from the original DVD/stick. See here.
Please note here the list of the map types supported by QVX. Not all formats can be imported from QV7.
With some map types it may happen that the calibration is not accepted. In this case, the map will be listed in the table, but the column Calibration will be highlighted in orange with “Please re-import”. In this case you can try the Re-import calibration tool on the calibration page. See here for more info on calibration.
Direct import to QVX only works with QV7 databases. If you have an older version, e.g. TTQV4, QV5 or QV6 you have to install QV7 first, e.g., the demo version, and import all DBs to QV7 first. Then you can continue as described here.
